Lunchtime chat with instructional designer Alan Debelle
Alan shares his views on technology in the corporate eLearning space. He discusses his favorite technologies and how designers can overcome their fear of using technology to reach learners. Recorded September 30, 2016.
This is a very interesting interview. I like that you chose a person who is not working in academia, but has a different perspective of technology and adult learners. I found it interesting that he has some of the same concerns for learners in the corporate world as we have for learners in academia. The concerns seem to be universal, which isn’t surprising when you think about it.
He seems to work from a behaviorist point of view. He indicated that he wanted learning to show some behavioral changes such as higher sales. This is what behaviorists indicate learning should do (Merriam & Bierema, 2014)

Thank you for the comments here. We worked together for several years and he is absolutely a behaviorist, so good call on your part. It's often critical in a corporate environment for us to show those behavioral changes in our learners so that we can "justify" the training, as we are engaged by our business partners to help impact sales performance and the bottom line. Appreciate your comments!
